7 Things You Don’t Want to Miss in Southern Utah This September

September might be one of the best months of the year to live in Southern Utah.

Summer is winding down, the calendar is filling up, and there are plenty of excuses to get out of the house. From one of St. George’s longest-running traditions to festivals, concerts, community events and the first signs of fall, here are seven things worth putting on your calendar this September.

1. Check Out the Newly Renovated Dixie Sunbowl

One of downtown St. George’s most recognizable landmarks has received a major makeover.

The renovated historic Dixie Sunbowl is ready for its next chapter, and September is a great time to check it out. The improvements help preserve a piece of St. George history while preparing the venue for more community events for years to come.

2. Celebrate Dixie Days

Downtown St. George comes alive for Dixie Days, September 12–20.

The celebration includes a parade, carnival, downtown activities and other events celebrating the history and community of St. George.

If you haven’t spent much time downtown lately, this is a great excuse to head down and see what’s happening.

3. Go to the Dixie Round-Up Rodeo

This is a Southern Utah tradition.

The Dixie Round-Up Rodeo runs September 17–19 at the newly remodeled historic Dixie Sunbowl.

Three nights of rodeo action include Kids Night on Thursday, Pink Night on Friday and the finals on Saturday. Throw in the concessions, famous rodeo hot dogs and the atmosphere of a packed Sunbowl on a September night, and it’s one of those St. George events everyone should experience at least once.

4. Catch Some Live Music

Summer may be winding down, but Southern Utah’s live music season isn’t finished.

September is a great month to catch a concert, tribute show or local band before cooler weather arrives. There’s something pretty hard to beat about live music with Southern Utah’s red cliffs and desert sunsets in the background.

Grab some friends and make a night of it.

5. Spend a Saturday at a Local Market

Sometimes the best weekend plans are the simplest ones.

Spend a Saturday morning checking out one of Southern Utah’s local markets. You’ll find local vendors, food, handmade items and plenty of people enjoying the cooler morning temperatures.

Go early, grab something to eat and enjoy a slow Saturday morning before the afternoon heat kicks in.

6. Head to Santa Clara Swiss Days

One of Southern Utah’s favorite community traditions returns September 24–26.

Santa Clara Swiss Days celebrates the area’s Swiss heritage and has become a can’t-miss fall tradition for many Southern Utah families.

It’s also a great excuse to spend some time in Santa Clara and enjoy the small-town side of Washington County.

7. GET OUTSIDE!

This one doesn’t require a ticket.

September is when Southern Utah starts reminding us why we live here.

Take an early morning hike. Explore Snow Canyon. Head toward Zion. Take the family to one of our state parks. Play a round of golf. Or just go for an evening drive once the temperatures start dropping.

We spend a lot of July and August trying to escape the heat. September is when we can finally start enjoying the outdoors again.

And the best part?

October isn’t even here yet.

From rodeos and festivals to concerts, markets and outdoor adventures, the next several weeks are packed with things to do around Southern Utah.

So get out of the house, explore Southern Utah and enjoy one of the best times of the year in the desert.
